Anchor and Light Emblem

The Anchor and the Storm

Finding Faith in Uncertainty

Life has a way of throwing us into turbulent waters, moments where the familiar landscape disappears and all we can see is the vast, unpredictable ocean. It's in these storms that our faith is truly tested, and we search for an anchor to hold us steady. Sometimes that anchor comes in unexpected forms—a wise word from a loved one, a sudden realization, or a quiet strength we didn’t know we possessed.

“It’s often in the middle of the storm that we discover just how strong our anchor really is.”

One of the most profound nuggets of advice I ever received came from my grandma, after I told her my husband and I were divorcing after sixteen years of marriage. It was the lowest point of my life. Heartbroken and sitting across the kitchen table from her, I heaved with heavy sobs, "Grandma, I don’t think I can do this..."

“Oh, yes, you can, Lisa,” she said firmly before adding in her endearing, no-nonsense way, “You have to—and you know why, don’t you?”

“Why?” I asked, barely holding myself together.

“Because your kids need you, damn it,” she said, pounding her fist on the table so hard it startled me.

That was Grandma Green—strong, loving, fierce, and faithful. And in that moment, even through my tears, a spark of strength flickered to life within me.

She made me say it—again and again—until I could feel it: “My kids need me.” Somewhere between those words and my grandmother’s unwavering gaze, something shifted. A quiet voice inside whispered, “You will get through this.”

In the midst of chaos, finding that central purpose—that unwavering reason—can be what pulls us through. When the future feels uncertain, focus on the present moment and ask yourself, “Is what I’m doing right now helping me move toward the life I’m trying to create?” That simple question becomes your compass, reminding you that even in the storm, you have the power to steer your own course toward a brighter horizon.

The Anchor and the Storm

About SherriAnne Leslie

There are some souls who live with one foot in the ordinary and the other quietly anchored in something eternal.

I write under the name SherriAnne Leslie—a name that was mine at birth before I was adopted just before my second year of life. My journey of instability, uncertainty, and survival began long before I had words for it, and it has shaped a life of resilience, faith, and deep understanding.

Along the way, I’ve gathered what I now call my gems, jewels, and nuggets—hard-earned truths, quiet wisdom, and moments of grace. These are the pieces that fill my metaphorical treasure chest. They were freely given to me, and I share them just as freely with others.

Take what speaks to you. Carry what serves you forward.

Professionally, I am a licensed Intervention Specialist (M.Ed., TESOL) with a background in special education and language development. My work has always centered on meeting people where they are, supporting complex needs, and building trust through consistency, compassion, and care.

I am a member of Pet Sitters International (PSI) and the founder of Integrity Home & Pet Care Services, where I extend that same philosophy to the care of homes and animals—ensuring peace of mind through dependable, heart-centered service.

My work is also deeply rooted in lived experience. As someone navigating dystonia and long COVID, I bring an informed, compassionate perspective to chronic illness, recovery, and resilience. I am currently a fourth-year participant in the NIH RECOVER and RECOVER 2.0 Long COVID research studies through University Hospitals Cleveland, contributing to ongoing efforts to better understand and support those living with complex conditions.

In addition, I serve as Co-Leader of the Greater Cleveland Dystonia Support Group, helping to foster connection, understanding, and support for others on similar journeys.

Through my writing and work, I explore the intersections of faith, caregiving, chronic illness, and the quiet strength required to keep going. Everything I create is rooted in one purpose:

To offer something steady in a world that often feels uncertain.
